Summer in Abu Dhabi often means long days of intense heat, making it essential for residents to take extra care of both themselves and their vehicles. While people focus on staying cool, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding the midday sun, car maintenance becomes just as important during this time of year. High temperatures can put additional pressure on vehicles, increasing the chances of mechanical problems if cars are not properly maintained.

During the peak summer months, drivers in the UAE frequently face issues such as overheating engines, tyre damage, and fluid leaks. These problems can appear suddenly, especially when vehicles are exposed to extreme heat for long periods. Because of this, routine checks and preventive maintenance become particularly important to keep cars running safely and smoothly.

Recognizing the challenges that motorists face in the summer, local authorities and industry partners have introduced a helpful initiative aimed at supporting drivers in the capital. The program is designed to encourage vehicle safety and help drivers ensure their cars remain in good condition throughout the hottest months of the year.

Vehicle inspections play a key role in preventing unexpected breakdowns. A simple check can identify early warning signs before they develop into larger mechanical issues. Many drivers, however, may delay routine maintenance due to busy schedules or concerns about cost. Programs that offer quick and accessible inspections can therefore make a meaningful difference for road safety.

As part of a new collaboration, Abu Dhabi Police and ADNOC Distribution have launched a service that provides motorists with a comprehensive inspection for light vehicles. The initiative focuses on examining important components that are particularly vulnerable to extreme temperatures and heavy use during summer.

The inspection covers several essential areas of the vehicle to ensure everything is functioning properly. Mechanics review the condition and levels of important fluids such as engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, clutch fluid, and windshield washer fluid. Filters, including the oil filter and air filter, are also checked to confirm that they are clean and operating efficiently.

In addition to fluid levels and filters, the inspection includes a review of other important components that contribute to safe driving. The condition of the battery, the pressure of the tyres, and the functionality of the wiper blades are examined. Systems such as power steering and braking are also evaluated to make sure they are performing correctly.

These checks are particularly valuable during the UAE’s summer season, when extremely high temperatures can affect the reliability of many vehicle parts. Tyres may expand under heat, engines can overheat, and fluid levels may change more quickly than usual. Ensuring these components are in good condition helps drivers avoid inconvenient and potentially dangerous situations on the road.

Beyond vehicle safety, the initiative also reflects broader efforts to support the well-being of people who spend long hours on the road. During summer, the heat can be especially challenging for delivery drivers and other workers who rely on their vehicles throughout the day.

To help address this, ADNOC Distribution has also introduced designated rest areas for delivery drivers across the capital. These spaces allow drivers to take breaks, cool down, and recharge during the hottest parts of the day. Plans are reportedly underway to expand these rest areas in the future so that more drivers can benefit from them.

The key highlight of the initiative, however, is that motorists can receive a full 12-point vehicle inspection without paying any fees. By offering these checks free of charge, the program aims to encourage more drivers to have their vehicles inspected and prepared for the demanding summer conditions in Abu Dhabi.

For many residents, this provides a convenient opportunity to make sure their cars remain safe and reliable while navigating the extreme heat of the season.
